How to Find Happiness: Be in Flow
Rachel & Shane Krider’s third episode of their personal development podcast teaches you how to find happiness and the power of identifying your purpose. Below is a snippet of the podcast where Shane discusses one of the main ideas of Daniel Pink’s self-help book, Drive, needing to be in flow in order to find happiness.
—
The 21st century author, Daniel Pink, knows a little bit about happiness. He knows a little bit about what it really takes for people to succeed and be on purpose. I love referring to his book, Drive.
He basically talks about the need to be in flow. When you’re getting into. flow you get to the point where you’re not thinking about what you’re doing, you’re not all up in your head, and you’re just in the groove, you’re in the moment, you’re making it happen. That’s when we do our best work. Statistically, your productivity goes through the roof when you get in this place of flow. Your creativity goes through the roof, your joy goes through the roof. All of this success, it all comes about from getting in the flow.
What we’re talking about here is a formula. We’re going to give you guys a bit of a formula to get more and more into flow. You’re not going to get in the flow doing things that you have to do. You get in flow by doing things that fulfill you. Granted, you might have to get a little bit creative to figure out what fulfills your heart and also put food on the table, but that’s part of the game of life. It’s something that we all have to figure out. If you want to be more successful, if you want things to be easier, you want to have more joy, if you want to gain the respect of more people, it’s just all an upward spiral.

How to Find Happiness: A Progressive Realization
Rachel & Shane Krider’s third episode of their personal development podcast teaches you how to find happiness. Below is a snippet of the podcast where Shane identifies happiness as a progressive realization of a worthy ideal.
—
I think we derail ourselves because we try to package our purpose. We think it should be this neat, tidy thing.
I can find a theme throughout my life where I can start to really understand what my purpose is. But, my purpose has definitely evolved. It’s the progressive happiness. The progressive successes.
Earl Nightingale said “success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” Well, so is happiness. I mean, it’s a progressive realization of a worthy ideal and part of it is just the unfolding of starting to really realize what your purpose is and how to really express that.
At the end of the day, we‘re all very similar. We want the same things. We want to be happy. We want to be healthy. We want our loved ones to be happy and healthy. We want to have relationships that are deep in our heart. Want to be respected and admired.
And yeah, maybe a really cool car or a cool motorcycle!
On a deep level, there’s a lot of things we have in common.

How to Find Happiness: Being Fully Engaged
Rachel & Shane Krider’s third episode of their personal development podcast teaches you how to find happiness. Below is a snippet of the podcast where Shane talks about being fully engaged in order to find your happiness.
—
Here’s the thing, we start out with the word “vigilance” because there’s intensity. Because things happen and you’re excited. But you’re also afraid. You’re trying new things. You’re way outside the box where things can go right or things can go wrong.
If you’re doing it to chase your carrot, it’s all worth it. It’s worth it if you’re doing it to avoid the pain, to try to stay ahead. If you end up in the confusion and you’re trying to follow the path of the masses, it’s not rewarding enough. That’s when it’s not rewarding enough to keep your attention.
Think of it like this, it’s like trying to pay attention to a boring movie. If you’re watching a movie that’s boring, or even painful to watch, but there’s going to be a test at the end of it, your vigilance is so low. If it doesn’t mean enough to you, you’re just the first challenge that comes your way and there will be a whole bunch of challenges on the pursuit of happiness, to success, etc.If you’re not following your purpose, you’ll be all ready to quit whereas if you’re on track following your purpose, that challenge will be like, “bring it.”
That’s it, it’s being fully engaged. How do you become fully engaged? Our kids are being diagnosed with ADD and a big part of that is just, is the kid engaged? Is the kid interested in what’s going on in front of them? As adults, were exactly the same way and if we’re not creating a life, if we’re not chasing some things in our life that fully are capable of engaging our intention, we’re not going to be vigilant. We’re constantly going to be prodded by the universe by whatever is going on our life. There’s constantly going to be things that are sneaking up on us and with the ability to cause us some damage, some harm, it’s going to require us to get vigilant when we really don’t want to. We experience that as stress. We don’t want to be in a stressful place. You want to be in a place where we’re having fun.
