Here’s the thing, we start out with the word “vigilance” because there’s intensity. Because things happen and you’re excited. But you’re also afraid. You’re trying new things. You’re way outside the box where things can go right or things can go wrong.
If you’re doing it to chase your carrot, it’s all worth it. It’s worth it if you’re doing it to avoid the pain, to try to stay ahead. If you end up in the confusion and you’re trying to follow the path of the masses, it’s not rewarding enough. That’s when it’s not rewarding enough to keep your attention.
Think of it like this, it’s like trying to pay attention to a boring movie. If you’re watching a movie that’s boring, or even painful to watch, but there’s going to be a test at the end of it, your vigilance is so low. If it doesn’t mean enough to you, you’re just the first challenge that comes your way and there will be a whole bunch of challenges on the pursuit of happiness, to success, etc.If you’re not following your purpose, you’ll be all ready to quit whereas if you’re on track following your purpose, that challenge will be like, “bring it.”
That’s it, it’s being fully engaged. How do you become fully engaged? Our kids are being diagnosed with ADD and a big part of that is just, is the kid engaged? Is the kid interested in what’s going on in front of them? As adults, were exactly the same way and if we’re not creating a life, if we’re not chasing some things in our life that fully are capable of engaging our intention, we’re not going to be vigilant. We’re constantly going to be prodded by the universe by whatever is going on our life. There’s constantly going to be things that are sneaking up on us and with the ability to cause us some damage, some harm, it’s going to require us to get vigilant when we really don’t want to. We experience that as stress. We don’t want to be in a stressful place. You want to be in a place where we’re having fun.
