“Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to is.” – Vince Lombardi
Vince Lombardi was a very successful American football coach. I’m not a big sports fan, but I love the quotes, the mentality, and the thinking behind some of these coaches.
So, winning isn’t everything but wanting to is. Again, if you’re not on your purpose, you’re just hanging out, trying to have the superficial part of life, the day-to-day, be the thing that feeds you and makes you happy. If you just live a day-to-day life, there’s no bigger picture you’re striving for. To keep yourself in a vigilant, happy, enthusiastic, vital place where you’re alert, aware, and loving life, you need to have a purpose. That desire to want to create something is what allows you to stay vigilant.
Think about it this way; if you want to become a yoga instructor, you know that becoming good at yoga is probably one of the steps on a greater path. Why do you want to become good at yoga? Maybe because you have suffered physically and don’t feel like you’ve had the mind-body-spirit connection that you’ve wanted to have. You feel like you’ve missed out on this part of life and now that you’re finally doing it, you can see the value in it. You want to become an instructor because you want to share that with other people.
The purpose of all this is to share it with others so you become the embodiment of the demonstration of what you can do with it. At the end of the day, there’s a lot of different ways you can share that with other people. You can open your own yoga studio, or you could do yoga YouTube videos. Keep climbing the ladder; it’s going to take you on a journey of learning new things and accomplishing new goals. It’s a never-ending journey that continues to make you better, and you have more successes and wins. You start meeting other people that are well known in the space and masterminding with those people.
That’s the key. Having a purpose is the carrot that continues to drive you toward happiness. Embracing this carrot allows you to know that whatever your purpose is, you can still reach it no matter what setbacks life throws at you. Continue to make strides toward your purpose, and you’ll be able to stay in a much happier place.
There’s a saying that goes like this: “People without a purpose parish” and I would certainly agree.
